The first full length LP from US producer White Ship is now available!
DryCry Records are delighted to be releasing White Ship’s debut EP “Aerial Tensions” on 29th April 2013. Click below to hear Wistman’s Wood, the first available track from the EP.
White Ship is the alias of self-taught producer and musician Cameron Hurdus, a Washington-state native currently residing in California. Possessing nostalgia for past travels and distant places, this drives him to create emotional sonic landscapes using standard and electronic instruments. His music displays a dedication to melody and tunefulness while being uncompromising in its complexity, bearing the influence of a wide array of genres.
This month we’ve called upon DryCry artist Barny Carter to compile the podcast. Enjoy!
Jon Hopkins – Vessel (Four Tet Remix)
Aphex Twin – Iz Us
Pangaea – You & I
Phaeleh – Should Be True
Asa & With Joyful Lips – Francoise
Stumbleine – Glacier
Sina – Remembrance
Barny Carter – Sing
We are delighted to announce the signing of Barny Carter to DryCry Records.
Barny is a 22 year-old Bristolian multi-instrumentalist, producing a unique blend of electronic music; fusing home-made samples, cut up beats and ambient synths.
Barny remixed fellow DryCry artist Sleepwalkers’ track ‘Rear Window’ earlier this year, creating a fresh and exciting take on the track. Since then, the relationship between Barny and DryCry Records has developed, and we are thrilled to be at a point where the five tracks to be included on the debut EP are complete. We are really excited about Barny’s sound and can’t wait for everybody to hear the EP.
Click below to enjoy ‘Park’, a track from the forthcoming release which BBC 6Music’s Tom Robinson recently declared “fresh and gorgeous”.
Barny Carter – Park
Barny Carter’s debut DryCry Records release is expected August 2012. In the meantime, please check drycryrecords.com for further details and exclusive listens.
The Winter 2011/12 podcast is online and available as a free download below:
1. Binary – Prisoner
London four-piece Binary have only been around for a year or so, but are already crafting some excellent tracks. With a steady shoegaze rhythm and dark swooning vocals, comparisons could be drawn to The Cure. Mixed by Nine Inch Nails collaborator Sean Beavan, Prisoner is out on the fantastic London indie label Luv Luv Luv.
2. Serenades – Oceans
Adam Olenius and Markus Krunegård, aka Serenades, have already created a stir in their Swedish homeland and are gaining crediable exposure in the UK with their brand of chilled electronic pop. Similar to all releases by Serenades, ‘Oceans’ is a blissful track full of rich vocal lines and crisp production.
3. Oliver Tank – Embrace feat. Fawn Myers
2011 has seen Sydney based Oliver Tank making a name for himself on Triple J Unearthed, with tracks from his ‘Dreams EP’ constantly lingering, for good reason, in the electronic chart. The whole EP encapsulates Oliver’s haunting minimal synth sound. Perfect night-time listening.
4. NZCA/LINES – Okinawa Channels
Here’s a fantastic track from Michael Lovett moniker NZCA/LINES. ‘Okinawa Channels’, featuring tight beats, analogue syths and layered vocals, is taken from the debut album ‘Nasca Lines’ which will be released 27th February.
5. Jamie N Commons – The Preacher
Unbelievably, although sounding like he’s spent his life smoking and drinking whisky with Mark Lanegan and Tom Waits, Jamie N Commons is only 22 years old. The opening track from ‘The Baron EP’ is gutsy, dynamic, and gaining approval from music journalists and bloggers alike.
6. Foxes – Youth
London duet Foxes create quality electronic pop. Louisa Rose Allen’s vocals go harmoniously hand-in hand with Sam Dixon’s polished productions. ‘Youth’ is taken from Foxes’ debut release, the double A-side ‘Youth/Home’ which is out on Neon Gold 16th January.
7. Filthy Boy – Naughty Corner
‘Naughty Corner’ is a quirky, catchy little number from South London alternative band Filthy Boy. Comparable to new Arctic Monkeys material and Our Mountain, ‘Naughty Corner’ is available as a free download from their Bandcamp page.
8. Y Niwl – Undegsaith
Y Niwl’s latest installment of fast paced surf rock comes in the form of ‘Undegsaith’. This 1 minute 8 second track available from the band’s Bandcamp page.
9. Friends – Friend Crush
New York indie stars Friends have been gaining fantastic momemtum on both sides of the Atlantic over the past few months. Their first release, ‘I’m His Girl’, got terrific support from the likes of BBC Radio, which has led to the band being hotly tipped for 2012 by dozens of music blogs and publications. ‘Friend Crush’ is an equally brilliant chic-indie track.
10. Gabriel Bruce – Sleep Paralysis
Closing the podcast is ‘Sleep Paralysis’ by Gabriel Bruce, the brilliantly brooding second release from the Off Modern label. Definately worth a listen if you enjoy music from the likes of The National.
DryCry Records fan Tom Robinson will be playing “Rear Window” on his BBC 6Music Introducing show this weekend. Tom has already aired “Seu”, the closing track of Tobias’ Circumstances EP in December. “Rear Window” will be aired straight after Ellie Goulding on Saturday night’s show. It will also be featured on the Introducing podcast, which will be available to download from the BBC 6Music website and iTunes next week.
We’re delighted to know that Tom Robinson will be playing Tobias’ track “Seu” on his show this Saturday on BBC 6music. Tom has been listening through the DryCry Records catalogue and has picked out a few tracks that he will be playing over the coming weeks.
Congratulations to Tobias on his UK radio debut!
The Autumn 2011 podcast is online and available as a free download below:
1. Flume – Possum
Flume, aka Harley Streten, is a 19 year old producer from Sydney, Australia. Creating electronic music of a quality far beyond his age, Flume has been creating a stir on Australian finger to the pulse radio station Triple J. ‘Possum’ can be downloaded for free from the Triple J Unearthed website and his three track Sleepless EP is released on Future Classic.
2. Lana Del Rey – Video Games (Jamie Woon Remix)
We first heard Video Games back in May and instantly took to this amazing track. Since then, Lana Del Rey has rightfully been thrust into the limelight, branded an ‘internet sensation’, and had remixes from the likes of Balam Acab, Joy Orbinson and Mover Shaker. Personally, I was a bit sceptical of remixes of such a stripped, powerful tune, but this Jamie Woon remix is a brilliant take.
3. Lise – Cuando El Tiempo Es La Poesía (Parece Constantina) – When Time is Poetry (Like Constantina)
The first of two tracks included in the podcast from ‘Qualquer Frágil Fio de Fantasia’, the amazing new album from Lise. This track has been featured by the Guardian Music, representing Brazil in the Music Alliance Pact earlier this year.
4. Exitmusic – The Sea
Exitmusic are married-duo Aleksa Palladino and Devon Church from New York City. ‘The Sea’, a particularly dynamic track with haunting melodies and a goth-like feel, is taken from their new EP – ‘From Silence’, which explores ‘themes of loss, both personal and universal, the destruction of nature and the destruction of our own nature’.
5. Bos Angeles – Beach Slalom
Hailing from Boscombe, Bournemouth, Bos Angeles describe themselves as ‘bedroom pop grunge lo-fi post-punk surf’. There is a definite sense of surf packed into this 2:35 track and it will be interesting to see what they release in the future. Beach Slalom is available as a free download from their Bandcamp page.
6. The Touch – Blocks
I saw the Touch play the best part of 6 months ago but keep getting drawn back to the melancholic, Joy Division-esque feel of this particular track. Although receiving remixes from big names such as Neon Electric and Voltaire Twins, the Australian band have not made much impact on UK shores. Their EPs 1.1 and 1.1 Remixes are available on iTunes.
7. ASAP Rocky – Wassup
The new rap talent that has already made a name for himself in the US is fast approaching the UK. Rocky received a shinning review from The Guardian’s New Band of the Day journalist Paul Lester, and reviews of his new material are equally as promising. This particular track was made with Clams Casino and will no doubt be available to download in the near future.
8. Lise – Com a Melhor Das Intenções – With the Best Intentions
Wrapping up the Autumn podcast is another beautiful track from the new Lise album ‘Qualquer Frágil Fio de Fantasia’, which will be released on DryCry Records 29th November.
